About Clondrohid Astro

Clondrohid Recreational Facilities Ltd is a local group of representatives from community groups and organisations within the area. We have been tasked with leading the Clondrohid Astro, Walkway & Track venture. The aim of this group is to develop and provide a facility that can be used all year round which will promote social inclusion and healthier living for groups of all ages within the area.

Clondrohid Community Recreational Facilities Ltd wishes to express our gratitude to the local community on their wonderful support for our new facilities. We would also like to thank all our partners in this project who have generously supported us especially in such difficult economic times.

Pitch Development

Work commenced on 20/10/10 on the ground works for the new pitch and was completed by Mid May 2011.   Kelly Brother’s contractors were awarded the contract for this development.

Track & Walkway Development

Ground work commenced on 4/6/13 for the track and walkway and was completed in December 2013.  The Crawford Group was awarded the contract for this development. Further work is planned for Q1 2014 with floodlights being installed for the track.  We expect this work to be completed by March 2014.

Astro Funding

We have been very fortunate with funding support for this project. Local individuals, families, GAA club and community groups have demonstrated that they are fully behind this venture with their financial support under the €1,000 loans scheme. This has been instrumental in the Community Group’s successful funding application of €150,000 from West Cork Development Partnership and €20,000 from Cork County Council.

Track & Walkway Funding

Again we were very grateful to the support fo West Cork Development Partnership (€199,290) and Cork County Council (€15,000) for their funding towards the development costs of this venture.  We would also like to thank Airtricty for their support.  This has helped us to fund some of the costs for installating flood lights on the track.

Additional Work / Recreational Benefits

The Group has also decided to complete additional work namely: support the upgrade of the kitchen facilities in the Community Hall which we believe will encourage additional community lead initiatives.  This was completed in 2011.
